 Mysore set for Jamboo Savari :

The City of Palaces is well prepared to host the 401st Jamboo Savari, the last leg of the nine-day Dasara festivities, on Thursday.

As per tradition, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will offer pooja to ‘Nandi Dhwaja’ at the auspicious Dhanur Lagna near Balarama gate of the palace as a prelude to the Savari between 12.54 pm and 1.24 pm. Torchlight parade, another major attraction, will be attended by Governor H R Bhardwaj, besides the chief minister, at 7 pm at the torchlight parade grounds in Bannimantap. Elephant Balarama, which will carry the 750-kg golden howdah on the D-Day, has undergone a rigorous exercise along with 13 jumbos that arrived in the City in two batches.              Unlike the second batch of jumbos, the Balarama-led elephants that arrived first have undergone nearly 50 days of rehearsal — from getting acclamitised to the procession route, the hustle-bustle of the traffic and weights in the form of sacks filled with grains, among others. Being a howdah elephant, Balarama has also been acclimatised to the ‘wooden howdah’ filled with sacks of grains. The four-km-long procession route from the palace to Bannimantap passing via the Statue Circle, K R Circle, Government Ayurvedic Hospital Circle and Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Circle has been re-asphalted.               The kerbstones too have got a fresh coat of paint. Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Medical Education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas said as many as 20,500 passes had been distributed to enable all — from common people to VIPs, freedom fighters to the specially abled, foreigners and various departments among several others representing different strata of society — to witness both the Jamboo Savari and the torchlight parade. In all, 34 tableaux from 30 districts will form another attraction with each district laying thrust on its culture and tradition. The tableau of Mysore will portray ‘mahisha mardini- navaratri bombegalu’. Over 3,000 police personnel have arrived in batches from across the State, besides local police, to ensure smooth celebrations. Security checks have been regularly conducted along the procession route.

 

Torch light parade:

         Torch light parade marks the finale of Dasara festival here at Bannimantap Grounds with a spectacular laser show, acrobatic show of motor bikes and equestrian show. Torch light parade was held in the parade grounds. The Maharaja would change to his riding clothes and make an entry on horse back to the parade ground to receive the salute by his military units. As it would be dusk, lights would be lit up to welcome the king and the military officials. Only military units would participate in this organized parade. The main purpose of this parade was to instill confidence in the people and also to showcase the military capability of the ruling king to the unknown enemies. The show with lights, colors and royalty was in a class of its own and much appreciated by the visiting dignitaries and foreign tourists. The grand finale would be the military band playing the national anthem of then State of Mysore.

Brindvan Garden - A Nice Place To Visit.

Brindavan Graden ( Dasara Special ) :

 

              Located 20 Km from Mysore ( Near Mandya ) , World Famous Terrace Gardens with Musical Fountains gets transformed into a dreamland by night with swirling waters, colourful lights and melodious music.  19 Km northwest of Mysore are the famous Brindavan gardens. They stretch below the Krishna Raja Sagara (K.R.S) Dam on the river Cauvery, and present a breathtaking harmony of water, color, light and music. The dam was built by the world famous Engineer and dewan of mysore Sir M.Vishweshwariah in 1932 during the regime of  Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. The garden is famous for its beautiful musical fountains.  On the way to K.R.S. (Krishna Raja Sagara), you come across an ancient "Venkataramana Swamy" temple in Gokulam in myssore, which is built in the way of Thirumala Temple of Thirupathi. The temple is open on all days and devotees flock to temple on Saturdays and special occasions. City buses are frequently available to the temple. [ It is built close to the confluence of three rivers:  Cauvery, Hemavathi and Lakshmanathirtha.]

ILLUMINATION AT BRINDAVAN GARDENS

 

         Illumination timings of Brindavan Gardens at Krishnaraja Sagar has been extended from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm from Oct. 19 to 23. The entry to the Gardens is open to the tourists and public on all the days from Oct. 1 to 31. The illumination timings are from 6.30 pm to 7.25pm from Monday to Friday and from 6.30 pm to 8.25 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Entry to the tourists will be restricted half an hour before the closing of illumination. However, the timings will be from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm from Oct. 12 to 21st, on account of Dasara festivities. On all these days, entry to the visitors will be stopped 30 minutes prior to the close of illumination timings. Brindavan Gardens is a show garden that has a beautiful botanical park, full of exciting fountains, as well as boat rides beneath the dam. Diwans of Mysore planned and built the gardens in connection with the construction of the dam. Display items include a musical fountain. Various biological research departments are housed here. There is a guest house for tourists. It is situated at Krishna Raja Sagara dam.

New Website For Mysore Dasara launched !!!

MYSORE : The official website of Mysore Dasara ( www.mysoredasara.gov.in ), complete with comprehensive information for tourists, was re-launched by District Incharge and Minister for Medical Education S A Ramadas here today.

           The website sports a new look with a simple and visually pleasing design that is devoid of any gaudy outlay. It is easily navigable and the information is arranged under different heads such as "About Us" 'Tourism', 'Events', 'Guide Maps' and 'Gallery', E-Ticket & Contact. It also includes latest events and a section devoted to the programmes to be staged during the festivities to be held from September 28 to October 6. Speaking to newspersons, Mr Ramadas said that it was available in two languages, including English and Kannada. The home page has a info box on Mysore, its distance from Bangalore, international dialling code and climatic conditions among others. The section under tourism has exhaustive information on heritage buildings.
