Half-day work for all Pak government offices for World Cup semifinal !

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday announced a half working day for government offices on Wednesday so that people could watch the cricket World Cup semifinal between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at Mohali.

Special Coverage: India vs Pakistan Semi Final

A statement issued by Gilani's office this evening said the Prime Minister had announced a "half-day for Wednesday so that the people could watch the Pakistan-India cricket semifinal".

All government offices will close at noon on Wednesday, the statement said. Attendance at all government and private offices is expected to be thin due to the people's interest in the game that will showcase one of the world's most intense sporting rivalries. In a related development, interior minister Rehman Malik said there was "no need to create hype" over the World Cup semifinal as such a development would put unnecessary pressure on the players.

"It is just a game and not war between Pakistan and India. We should keep our team's morale high and creating hype creates a negative impact on our players' performance," he told reporters outside parliament.

Malik said the whole country is praying for the victory of the Pakistani team and the players should focus on their performance.

Cricket diplomacy has brought Pakistan and India closer and improved relations between the two countries are key to regional peace, he said.

"I will accompany Prime Minister Gilani during his visit to India, which will help boost the morale of the player and the relationship between the two countries," he said, referring to Gilani's decision to accept his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh's invitation to watch the match at Mohali.

25 acres of land if Pakistan beat India !

Lahore: Pakistan's Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced that each member of the national cricket team will be given 25 acres of fertile land if they beat India in the high-profile World Cup semi-final match.

"My government will give 25 acres of fertile land to each member of the team as a prize if they beat India," Sharif said during a news conference on Monday.

"The Pakistani cricket team deserves appreciation from the nation for displaying outstanding performance in different matches of the World Cup. We are praying for its success," he said.

Sharif advised the Pakistani players not to come under pressure for the crucial game against arch-rival India. Pakistan will play against India tomorrow in high-voltage semi-final match of the World Cup in Indian Punjab, not far from the Pakistani Punjab.

India - Pak Semi Final:

Security on war footing for peace encounter :

CHANDIGARH/NEW DELHI: Anti-aircraft missiles, guns and robotic bomb-disposal units will be deployed in and around Mohali ahead of Wednesday's diplomacy-laced cricket encounter between India and Pakistan that will be watched by the political who's who from the two sub-continental rivals, defence sources said.

While the missiles will be deployed by the Army's Western Command around the stadium to foil any airborne terrorist attack, the bomb disposal units will be equipped with British-made remote-operated vehicles (ROV's) built to defuse powerful explosive devices.

Several columns of troops from the Western Command at Chandimandir are on alert to deal with any eventuality.

Pakistan PM Yousaf Raza Gilani is scheduled to fly into Chandigarh on Wednesday morning just ahead of Manmohan Singh's arrival. It will be the first meeting of the two leaders after the ghastly 26/11 attack on Mumbai by Pakistani terrorist soured the peace process. Wednesday's meeting between the two leaders has been described by officials as "informal"

But the fact that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi will also be in the VIP stands along with Singh and Gilani goes to prove that the party fully backs the PM's peace initiative.

While Gilani will be accompanied by a 50-member delegation, the Indian side will include foreign secretary Nirupama Rao.

The decision to rope in the Army for security was taken at a joint meeting of security agencies at the Punjab Raj Bhawan on Monday morning. Those attending the meeting chaired by Governor Shivraj Patil included top brass of the Western Command.

Sources said help was sought in view of a heightened threat perception by intelligence agencies and apprehensions of a terror attack. The National Technical Research Organization has already been assigned air surveillance and air intelligence interceptions tasks in coordination with the Air Force.

2nd PU EXAM: Physics Paper Leaked, 24 debarred, Student ends life !

Claiming that the Physics question paper in the ongoing II PUC examination was not leaked, the Department of Pre-University Education (PUE) has ruled out re-examination.

Even before the Physics exam began on Wednesday, rumours were making the rounds that the question paper had been leaked.

It all started when police arrested two persons and seized a script with “similar questions” from their possession in Gubbi town of Tumkur district. But it did not really match with the actual paper.

Refuting what he called  “mischievous” rumours spread by miscreants, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that the question paper was not leaked anywhere in the State.

‘Rumours far from truth’

“Rumours of the paper being leaked are far from truth. Such reports are nothing but falsities,” Kageri told reporters at the Vidhana Soudha.  The matter was being investigated and rumour-mongers would be punished, he added.

R Basavarajappa, Joint Director (Examinations) of the Department, said “The original paper (given to students) was not leaked. The confiscated script had only a few similar questions from the actual paper. After a thorough verification, we decided not to cancel the examination,” told Basavarajappa.

24 debarred :

As many as 24 students were debarred across the State during the II PUC examination on Wednesday. According to the Department of Pre-University Education (PUE), Bijapur district accounted for 10 debarments, whereas two students each were caught in Bangalore North, Gadag, Haveri, Gulbarga, and Hassan districts. One student each was caught in Bagalkot, Chikkballapur, Bellary, and Raichur districts.

Exam stress: II PU student ends life

Unable to cope with the examination stress, a II PU student committed suicide at Rampur Gate in Srirangapatna, Mandya district.

Sachin, son of a village accountant in Subhash Nagar, Mandya, was a student of Abhinav Bharati PU College.

After writing the mathematics examination on Monday, he left home and did not return. He had called his friends on Monday night from Srirangapatna and told them that he had not fared well in chemistry and mathematics examinations.A meritorious student, Sachin had scored 95 per cent in Class X. He was aspiring to pursue MBBS. He was depressed that he would not be able to score well in the two subjects, his friends said.

His body was found on the railway track on Wednesday. Police said he threw himself under the Bangalore-bound Tipu Express train from Mysore. His body was handed over to his parents after post mortem.

The World's Wonderful Climax of Largest Anaconda !

Simply ROCKS & SHOCKS !

Supermoon expected on March 19th !

By definition, a "SUPERMOON" is simply a full moon that happens to be close to the earth.
On March 19, the supermoon will be one of “rare size and beauty,” said NASA’s website.
How rare is it?
"The last full Moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993," said Geoff Chester of the US Navy.
The moon’s orbit around the earth is oval; therefore, sometimes it’s close to the earth and sometimes it’s farther away.
The distance between the farthest point (apogee) and the nearest point (perigee) is about 50,000 km.  The perigee moons are 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than apogee moons.
On March 19, the moon will be less than one hour away from the perigee, according to Chester, so it’s near “perfect.”
What’s the best time to view this beautiful moon?
According to NASA, “the best time to look is when the Moon is near the horizon…That is when illusion mixes with reality to produce a truly stunning view.”
Lastly, NASA stated that contrary to rumors floating on the Internet, supermoons don’t cause natural disasters and the current approaching one was not responsible for Japan’s tragedy.

Exam Fear ? - How to Overcome it ?

Exam fear is something that most students go through before the onset of examinations. However, it is important to learn how to overcome exam fear, to do well in the exams. This article will give students some crucial tips which will help them while preparing for their exams.
Exams are a way of assessing what a student has learned during the academic year. Apart from this, it is also a method through which the student's learning and grasping abilities are evaluated and graded by the teacher. This makes it very important for students to learn well, and achieve good scores in the exam. However, for most students, exams bring with it lot of tension, stress and anxiety. The main reason for this is because of increased pressure that they receive from their parents and teachers to perform well in the exams. Although a little bit of exam fear and anxiousness is important to study and learn before the exams, too much tension can hamper the student's ability to do well. Many times, due to exam fear, students tend to forget what they have learned, thus scoring less than they could have. Hence, it is extremely crucial for students to learn about how to reduce exam fear, so that they can give their examination confidently, subsequently earning good grades.

How to Overcome Exam Fear

Students who are suffering from exam fear are likely to experience problems like difficulty in concentrating while studying, confusion, feeling tensed while looking at difficult questions, feeling blank, dizziness, sweating, sleeplessness, etc. All these factors can cause the student to feel more anxious which can affect his performance during the exam. Hence, students should know how to avoid exam fear and do well during the examinations. You can gain more information on exam fear through the article on test anxiety in students.

Prepare Well in Advance
One of the most common reasons for the student to feel exam fear is lack of preparation. There are many students who take studies lightly, thus leaving everything to be studied at the last minute. This will surely cause anxiety as the student does not know where to start, and what to study. Hence, the easiest way of overcoming exam fear is to start studying much before the exam. Studying regularly, what is taught in the class will save you lot of time to revise before the exams. Also, as you have studied everything already, you will not feel tense that you have not prepared an important topic or subject. You can learn about some effective ways of preparing for an exam through the article, study tips for exams.

Learn, Do Not Mug Up
One of the mistakes that many students make is that they mug up without understanding what they are studying. Students must understand that this is not the correct way of studying. Moreover, the chances of forgetting is more, when one has memorized without understanding. Hence, it is very important to first understand the concept that one is studying and then, memorizing it. In this way, you will never forget any important point. Also, you will be able to present the points in your own words, even if you do not remember the answer word to word. Understanding the concept, before memorizing will actually lead to effective learning. Here are some tips on achieving success in your exams.

Make Time to Relax
Examination time does not mean that you have to sit with your books the entire day. This actually should be avoided, and one should take regular breaks to relax and refresh one's mind. Indulge in some kind of exercises like walking, jogging or playing your favorite sport during the break. Apart from this, listening to music, talking to friends and family, will also help you in relaxing during your exam time. However, it would be better to avoid watching television or browsing the Internet during this time. This is because, many students are addicted to television and Internet and one is likely to waste time on it, more than what was intended.

Revise Properly
The last few weeks before the examination should be spent by revising each subject. Plan out a timetable in such a way that you get equal time to revise every topic. During this time, you can make some small notes which will make it easier for you to remember points and revise them quickly. If you are concerned about your writing speed, practicing solving a question paper of a previous year would give you more confidence. It will also help you in knowing what you should take care while writing your exam paper.

Additional Tips to Overcome Exam Fear

Apart from the above given study tips to overcome exam fear before the examinations, here are some more points that will help students to cope with the anxiety which begins with the arrival of exams. Here is some more information on exam preparation tips.
  • One very important thing that students should remember, is to avoid studying anything new just before the exam. This will cause more anxiety and you may forget what you have already learned.
  • It is also important to avoid having conversations with your friends about what they have studied, how much they have studied. This will make you more tense and nervous.
  • If you are feeling very tense and anxious, just before entering the examination venue, take a few deep breaths which will help you to relax.
  • During the exam, if you get tensed or blank after seeing difficult questions, skip them for the time being and attempt questions which you find easier. Once you have completed them, go back to the difficult ones. In this way, you will surely be able to answer them confidently.
I hope these tips on overcoming exam fear has been helpful for students. However, along with the students, even parents have the responsibility to make sure that their children do not go through any kind of tension or stress during exams. Many times, children experience exam fear because of the pressure that parents put on them. Although this is important, they must see to it that they do not go overboard and pressurize their children so much, that they are not able to study anything. Parents must understand that each student has certain capabilities and encouraging them to study, rather than causing them stress, can help them in giving their exams confidently.

JAPAN once again warned on March 16th !

Heightened radiation threat :
Japan scrambled to avert a meltdown at a stricken nuclear plant on Monday after a hydrogen explosion at one reactor and exposure of fuel rods at another, just days after a devastating earthquake and tsunami that killed at least 10,000 people.

The big fear at the Fukushima nuclear complex, 240 km north of Tokyo, is of a major radiation leak. The complex has already seen explosions at two of its reactors on Saturday and on Monday, which sent a huge plume of smoke billowing above the plant.

Jiji news agency said fuel rods at the No 2 reactor had been entirely exposed and a fuel rod meltdown could not be ruled out. The plant operator confirmed there was little water left in the reactor, adding that the fuel rods may have been exposed.
The rods have now been partially covered by sea water, the reactor's operator said.
There were earlier partial meltdowns of the fuel rods at both the No 1 and the No 3 reactors, where the explosions had occurred.

A meltdown raises the risk of damage to the reactor vessel and a possible radioactive leak. Levels of cooling sea water around the reactor core had been reported as falling earlier in the day. Jiji said the pump had run out of fuel.

Crucially, officials said the thick walls around the radioactive cores of the damaged reactors appeared to be intact after the earlier hydrogen blast.
But the government warned those still in the 20-km evacuation zone to stay indoors. The plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) , said 11 people had been injured in the blast.

Kyodo said 80,000 people had been evacuated from the zone, joining more than 450,000 other evacuees from quake and tsunami-hit areas in the northeast.
“Everything I've seen says that the containment structure is operating as it's designed to operate. It's keeping the radiation in and it's holding everything in, which is the good news,” said Murray Jennex, a nuclear expert at San Diego State University.
“This is nothing like a Chernobyl ... At Chernobyl (in Ukraine in 1986) you had no containment structure — when it blew, it blew everything straight out into the atmosphere.”

Nuclear experts said it was probably the first time in the industry's 57-year history that sea water has been used to cool the fuel rods, a sign of how close Japan may be to a major accident.
“Injection of sea water into a core is an extreme measure,” Mark Hibbs of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. “This is not according to the book.”
Nuclear fuel accounts for 30 per cent of Japan's electricity. Of Japan's 54 reactors, 11 have been shut down by the quake.

“If cooling water is not returned, the core should melt in a matter of hours,” said Edwin Lyman, senior scientist for global security programs at the Union of Concerned Scientists which lobbies for stronger security and safety measures at nuclear plants.
A Japanese official said before the blast that 22 people were confirmed to have suffered radiation contamination and up to 190 may have been exposed. Workers in protective clothing used hand-held scanners to check people arriving at evacuation centres. US warships and planes helping with relief efforts moved away from the coast temporarily because of low-level radiation. The US Seventh Fleet described the move as precautionary.

South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines said they would test Japanese food imports for radiation.

Almost 2 million households were without power in the north. There were about 1.4 million without running water. Tens of thousands of people are missing. Roads and rail, power and ports have been crippled across much of Japan's northeast and estimates of the cost of the multiple disasters have leapt to as much as $170 billion.
“It’s a scene from hell, absolutely nightmarish,” said Patrick Fuller of the International Red Cross Federation from the coastal town of Otsuchi.

Video of Tsunami in JAPAN.... Must watch atleast once !!!

Tsunami hits Japan after 8.8 magnitude earthquake !

Tsunami swamps Japan after powerful quake !!!

Large areas of Japan's northern Pacific coast have been swamped by a devastating tsunami, engulfing entire towns following a major 8.9 offshore quake.
The massive wave of water, as high as 10 metres in some parts, reached more than five kilometres inland.
The meteorological agency issued its top-level evacuation alerts for the entire Japanese coast amid warnings of a tsunami of between six and 10 metres.
Towns and farms around Sendai city in northern Japan have been engulfed by a seven-metre tsunami, while a four-metre wave swamped parts of Kamaishi on the Pacific coast.
Residents have been ordered to high ground and stay away from the coast as tsunamis can strike in several waves.
Seismologists say the quake was 160 times more powerful than the one that devastated Christchurch last month.
  • Wall of water crosses Japan's east coast
  • Large parts of Miyagi prefecture engulfed
  • Homes flooded, cars and boats washed away
  • No leaks of radioactive material from power plants
  • BOM says no tsunami warning for Australia
  • Contact DFAT on 1300 555 135
Japanese television has shown pictures of a wall of water kilometres wide moving its way across the countryside, engulfing everything in its path.
The Cosmo oil refinery in Chiba prefecture outside Tokyo has exploded, sending flames dozens of metres into the air, with firefighters unable to contain the inferno.
It is one of more than 40 blazes burning across Japan.
"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicentre within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours," the agency said.
A tsunami warning has been issued across the wider Pacific including Russia, the territories of Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, the Marshall Islands, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Micronesia and Hawaii.
Russia has evacuated 11,000 people from areas that could be affected, including Kuril islands and Sakhalin island. Hawaii has also ordered evacuations.
The Bureau of Meteorology says there is no tsunami threat to Australia.
The quake, already considered one of the worst in Japan's history, struck about 382 kilometres north-east of Tokyo at a depth of 24 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said.
The USGS reported at least eight strong aftershocks, including a 6.8 quake on the mainland 66 kilometres north-east of Tokyo.
The death toll has already reached 23 and officials say an unknown number of people are missing.
In one incident a woman reportedly died in a building collapse in Takahagi, Ibaraki prefecture.
As the tsunami hit Iwate prefecture harbour, scores of cars and upturned boats smashed into bridges and buildings.
Kyodo news agency is reporting that police in Miyagi prefecture believe a ship carrying 100 people was carried away by the tsunami.
Shinkansen bullet trains stopped when the quake struck, while five nuclear power plants in northern Japan have been shut down.
The government says none of the plants are leaking radiation.
Power has been cut to 4.4 million homes in Tokyo and surrounding areas.
Many people were injured after a roof collapsed at a hall in Tokyo where a graduation ceremony for 600 students was being held, the fire department said.
Narita airport and airstrips in Miyagi prefecture have been closed.
The quake was felt as far away as the Chinese capital of Beijing, 2,500 kilometres to the west, residents said.

Karnataka assembly to discuss cricket match ticket chaos

BENGALURU : The chaotic scenes at the Chinnaswamy stadium last week for tickets to Sunday's India-England World Cup tie is turning out to be a major issue for Karnataka legislators.
The assembly would discuss the matter Thursday and decide whether to set up a committee to probe the mess, which some members called a 'scam'.
Thousands of people had queued up Thursday at the stadium and police staged a baton charge to keep the milling crowds under control. Only around 7,000 tickets were sold at the counters for a stadium with a capacity of around 50,000.
Several legislators were angry that they were not treated fairly in ticket distribution. A number of tickets had been set apart for the legislators, who had to collect it from the speaker's office.
S.R. Vishwanath, a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, claimed that only 5,000 tickets were meant for the public and of this only 1,000 were sold to them. 'The rest went in the black market,' he charged.
He held the Karnataka State Cricket Association management responsible for the mess. The KSCA is now headed by former India captain and leg spinner Anil Kumble. Former paceman Javagal Srinath is the secretary.
Srinath has apologized to the fans for the baton charge and also for inability of the KSCA to provide tickets to all of them because of commitments to KSCA members, other state cricket associations, International Cricket Council, Board of Control for Cricket in India, sponsors and the like.
Two Congress members N. L. Narendra Babu and N. Sampangi and Vishwanath raised the issue of baton charge on the fans though 'calling attention motion' and insisted that only a house panel (committee of legislators) would bring out the true picture.
They were supported by several other ruling and opposition members.
The members sought a house committee to find out how tickets sales were managed and whether they were sold in black market.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S. Suresh Kumar told the legislators that the house could discuss the issue Thursday and then decide whether to set up a panel.
Speaker K. G. Bopaiah announced that a decision on forming a panel would be taken 'after discussion on March 3'.

Was there a "MATCH FIXING" b/w Ireland vs England in WORLD CUP ???

Ireland downs England in World Cup shock !!

Kevin O'Brien smashed the fastest ever World Cup century to propel Ireland to a stunning three-wicket win over England in a Group B match in Bangalore overnight.

An astonishing knock by O'Brien, who clobbered 13 fours and 6 sixes to reach three figures in only 50 balls, helped the Irish to live up to their reputation as giant-killers as they overhauled England's total of 8 for 327 with five balls to spare.
It was the highest successful run chase in the tournament.
O'Brien came to the crease with almost half his side back in the pavilion with Ireland struggling on 4 for 106 in the 23rd over.
He then turned on a breathtaking show of power hitting while the M Chinnaswamy Stadium roared him on.
Inspired by O'Brien, Alex Cusack smashed 47 runs as they put on 162 runs for the sixth wicket before he was run out with Ireland still requiring 55 runs to win.
However, O'Brien soldiered on and no amount of bowling changes or field placings could stop him and England came loose at the seams with misfields and dropped catches aiding Ireland's chase.
Four years after beating Pakistan in the group stage in the Caribbean, the Irish repeated the feat to dent England's hopes of progressing into the knockout stages of the 2011 tournament.
"When you are 111-5 I just said to myself, we could just potter around and get 220 off 50 overs for eight or nine and the game would have been pretty boring to watch and it wouldn't have been anything to watch on TV," a grinning O'Brien said clutching his man of the match trophy.
"I just chanced my arm and said I'm going to be as positive as I can and I got a few away and didn't look back really.
"It's probably the best innings I've ever played. I just hit the ball pretty well and got a bit of luck and things went my way. I just kept going and kept attacking."
The 26-year-old O'Brien dismantled the English bowling to score 113 runs from 63 balls and his knock helped produce the first upset in this year's showpiece.
He was run out with 11 runs still required off as many balls.
However, John Mooney (33 off 30 balls) kept his head and with three required to win off the last over, smashed a boundary to spark off the Irish celebrations.
Having only narrowly beaten the Netherlands, England's remaining matches are against West Indies, Bangladesh and South Africa and skipper Andrew Strauss admitted that there is no margin for error if they are to go through to the next round.
"It was a great performance from Ireland. I'm not going to take anything away from them. They thoroughly deserved their victory. We've got to go away, lick our wounds and make sure we come back and play better," he said.
"The game coming up against South Africa (on Sunday) is a huge one for us.
"Generally we bounce back well from defeat in the past whether it's in Test cricket or one-day cricket and we are going to have to do that very quickly and probably be very honest with each other and realise where we can improve and make those improvements very quickly."
Strauss admitted that bowling on the flat sub-continent pitches was always going to be difficult, but flayed his bowlers for the way they have conceded most of those runs.
"What we don't want to be doing is haemorrhaging both sides of the wickets and kind of chasing our tails too much which potentially we have done in the last three games," Strauss said.
Ireland captain William Porterfield, who saw his side squander a winning position in their opening match against Bangladesh, hailed the "greatest" day for Irish cricket.
"We believed in ourselves. We had a bit of an upset the other night when we should have knocked off 200 against Bangladesh but to bounce back the way that the lads have bounced back, especially after losing a few early wickets," he said.
"We've still got four games left in this tournament so we'll be looking to put in a performance like that every game and you never know from there. We've still got a great chance of qualifying for the second phase.
